Our sports gear, especially Cricket bats, go through tremendous wear and tear and would require some repair from time to time. Here are few tips on maintaining your bat with glue - 1 – if your Cricket bat’s handle comes out, it can be fixed by simply applying wood glue and reinserting it into the slot. Lightly hammer the handle into the slot and tape/clamp the bat to hold the handle in place. Leave the glue to dry for at least 48 hours and you should be back at the pitch soon after. For added support insert a couple of wood screws into the body to fasten the handle in place. 2 – Glue can also be used to maintain your bat and fix minor chips and repair cracks. Fill the cracks with wood-glue completely and make sure you wipe off any excess glue, leaving a smooth surface. Allow the glue to dry for at least a full day (24 hours) by clamping it. Later, smooth out the surface by sandpapering the glued areas and then oiling the surface with linseed oil for the finishing touch. You can then bind the repaired portion with bat-tape or twine that’s soaked in glue. Always use gloves while handling string adhesives..
